There were a few ” no shows ” this morning, probably due to the weather, but thanks to those that took the time to let us know beforehand, it makes life easier at the draw when we know the ones that cant make it..!
So yesterday all ponds were ” ice free “, at 2.30am this morning they remained this way, but no one could have predicted the -7 that came in just before daybreak freezing every pond at the fishery..!
Nevertheless, we are never beat at Broom, and with the help of most of the match anglers we soon had 18 pegs freed up to ensure the match went ahead.
Queensberry Water fished surprisingly well considering all the commotion and disturbance caused by the ice breaking, with everyone catching fish, albeit lots of small ones.
Simon Willan came out on top with another good win to add to last week’s, catching 5 good skimmers, a nice perch, a few nice roach up to 12oz and lots of ” bits “, all caught on pole/maggot and weighing in a respectable 16lbs 10oz.
Don Lines fished consistently well again using maggot/pole, catching a few bonus fish and lots of small blades and gudgeon to finish 2nd with 14lbs 3oz, Ian Whitson took 3rd place with 10lbs 7oz.
A wee mention for David McAuley who had 100+ small fish, a very busy day to finish 4th.
On Wallace Lake, it was a lot slower, and Craig Duncan was leading easily 2.5hrs into the match with 30+ small gudgeon and perch, with
the anglers on either side catching the odd small silvers.
Meantime Barry Young had spent extra time breaking ice out to 13.5m at the start of the match on peg 42 and remained to bite less for the first 3.5hrs..!
At 2 pm Paul Barnett started to catch the odd ide, soon netting 5 to put him in contention, then Rosen Arsov on the next peg started catching one or two also, Rosen then put in a late surge with a few more small ide and one better one to win the section with 7lbs 7oz.
Barry Young upped his feeding a little and altering his rig to fish 10″ off bottom produced a late run of ide, catching 12 in the last hour to go from nowhere to finish 2nd.
Tam Mitchel kept up a steady stream of small silvers to take 3rd place with 4lbs 6oz.
A typical example of how quickly a match can change..!
Well done to all the ” Framers ” today, and even more so to all the hardy souls who turned up and helped in the ice breaking..!

After a whole week of no frost and decent weather at the fishery, it was quite the reverse today. An overnight low of – 4 froze the ponds, and the match anglers had rain, snow and hail to contend with for most of the match.!
As usual, the guys weren’t put off and soon had the icebreakers out clearing the pegs.
It certainly wasn’t a day for the faint-hearted, and the fishing was tough throughout.
On Queensberry Water, there were bites to be had, albeit from small fish, but it kept things tight and all to fish for.
Winner on Queensberry water today was Barry Young, with 86 small fish in his net, a mix of gudgeon, roach, perch, an ide and small skimmers for 8lbs 5oz.
The 2nd place points were shared with both Craig Duncan and Tam Mitchel catching small roach and skimmers late on to both weigh in 5lbs 3oz.
Thomas Woodman was just pipped into 3rd place with 5lbs 2oz – a close little section with very little between the weights.
On Wallace Lake, it was a much quieter affair, with most being able to count the number of bites over the entire match on one hand.!
Patience would be key knowing the small ide would turn up late on, and Ian Whitson persevered on peg 42 to catch about 10 small ide to win the section with 6lbs 3oz.
Likewise, Joshua Caisley sat it out catching 4 small ide late on for 3lbs 6oz – enough to secure him 2nd place.
A very tough day for all, but credit to those ” hardcore ” anglers that sat through a horrendous day to make sure the league match was fished..! – well done all.

After having to break the ice for the first two rounds, thankfully none of that today, unfortunately, we were greeted with flat calm and very bright conditions though, and what a tough day it was..! We just can’t win with the fishing conditions at present but a beautiful day to be outside for sure.
Queensberry Water turned out to be the place for bites, with most anglers catching lots of small silvers making for a busy day.
There were a few groans at the draw when Barry Young drew peg 20 on Queensberry for the 2nd week in a row, but there would be no repeat of his 61lb + effort from last week, the water being a lot clearer with no wind.
Patience was the key, however, and he soon had 4 small carp on an 8mm pellet with the tip rod, but it was short lived.!
One good ide on the waggler and two nice skimmers along with another two F1 carp on the pole late on using dead red maggots were enough to seal the section win with 18lbs.
Steve Royle had a very busy day catching 100+ small silvers on the pole using maggots to finish second with 12lbs 5oz – with two good bonus fish lost.
Billy Sawyers fished well-using maggots on the pole with an equally nice net of small silvers to finish in 3rd place, with Dan Sullivan keeping himself busy with lots of bites / small fish to take the 4th spot.
On Wallace Lake, it was a real grueller for most, with Craig Duncan romping ahead of the field on end peg 39. Craig made full use of the Broom rules casting a long range feeder to catch a few skimmers and small carp, weighing in 13lbs 12oz to win the section.
With everyone else struggling for bites, the odd small ide that did show up would make all the difference, and Shaun McAneney capitalised with just enough small silvers to take second place with 2lb 13oz, with Geoff Brough only 1oz behind in third place. Literally, ounces separated the rest of the field, very tight and a very tough day for all..!
Its safe to say the whole fishery was having a quieter day than normal today with the conditions not ideal for fish to be getting their heads down…… But we won’t knock the weather, a rare calm and sunny day. Well done everyone.

Low cloud, the odd shower, no wind and mild, the weather conditions were slightly better than of late..!
Skimmers were feeding well today on both ponds and made up most of the better weights.
On Queensberry Thomas Woodman drew the in-form peg 20, and won the section comfortably with 37lbs 6oz of carp caught on the method feeder.
Ian Whitson left it late but a late run of skimmers and chub on the pole gave him a 22lb + weight to secure second place, with Craig Duncan putting in another consistent performance to finish third with 17lb 14oz of skimmers, picking up more valuable points with one round to go.
On Wallace Lake, everyone was hoping to draw between pegs 39 & 42 going by previous results, and it was no surprise that end peg 39 won for the second time in quick succession.
Bill Sawyers was the lucky one to draw it, but still had to put fish in his net, but a nice 22lb + net of skimmers caught on cage feeder and pole gave him a comfortable win.
Rosen Arsov managed skimmers and ide on the maggot feeder and pole to take second place, with Tam Mitchel on peg 40 taking third place with a net of skimmers and ide.
It was tough on pegs 45 & 46 with Barry Young and Dan Sullivan getting their first bites at 3.15 pm when eventually the ide moved in, a similar pattern to the previous matches with bites coming only in the last half hour.
Good days fishing for some, and really tough for others but nice to see some good nets of skimmers yet again.

Another good turnout today with 20 anglers competing and a decent dry day with very little wind, but a lot cooler in the afternoon..!
The fishing started off well on both ponds, surprisingly better with the bright sunshine during the first two hours, and a little slower when the cloud cover rolled in bringing the colder air with it.
On Wallace Lake Symon Willan caught Carp steadily throughout the day, fishing the feeder and weighing in a respectable 56lbs 5oz to win the lake from end peg 35.
At the opposite end of the lake, Rosen Arsov picked up a 2nd place from end peg 45, again catching on the feeder to weigh in 43lbs 9oz of carp. He picked up a valuable 9pts to secure 3rd place in the Winter league overall.
Billy Elliot was worthy of a mention, finishing 3rd on the lake with a nice net of ide and small silvers, weighing in 24lbs 3oz.
On Queensberry Water Mark Clow fished the section as an Open angler, winning the lake with a decent net of Skimmers and silvers for 25lbs 3oz.
Craig Duncan had a slow start on peg 27, but his patience paid off when a good number of decently sized skimmers moved over his pole line. Craig weighed in 20lbs 2oz to pick up the maximum 10pts, which turned out to be crucial in the final league results.
Steve Royle picked up 3rd place with a mix of small carp and silvers for 19lbs 9oz.
Barry Young who’d lead the league up until today managed 3rd picking up 8pts, leaving him tied with Craig on points but narrowly losing ours on weight.
A decent end to the league with the usual twists and turns on the final day…!
Well done to all the “Framers” and to all who supported the league in some pretty horrendous conditions..!
