A lovely dry and warm day with a gentle breeze greeted the anglers today.. A bit more like the weather we should be having and nice to see the back of that cold spell. ?.!!
13 anglers turned out for the Open on Wallace Lake today with a club match on Queensberry Water.
At the draw a certain Mr Young kept up with his luck ? in the drawbag.. Pulling out end peg 32 much to the disbelief of the rest of the field with a few sharp quips made in his direction. ? ?.
With Scott Mcghee drawing the opposite end peg 47.. It was up to the others to stop them catching… Or winning. A big ask, but it’s been done before.
Barry started slowly on the method feeder, with only 4 small carp in the first hour, but a switch to the waggler produced 20 more in the next two hours. Another 8 in the 4th hour but things tailed off just when a big weight was on the cards.. A further 4 fish, 3 on method and one more on the waggler was all he could muster in the last hour n half.. Finishing with 36 Carp for a section win and Overall match win with a superb 91lbs 4oz.. Not quite the magic ” Ton” but a solid effort.
David Mcauley fished a good match to weigh in 40lbs finishing 2nd in section. David had a few small carp on the method and a good number of ide on the pole using maggots…although bites were patchy and hard to hit at times.
Only a few ounces separated the next 4 anglers who all had ide and small Carp for 22lb + weights.
In section 2 the end peg didn’t quite do enough to secure the section win, with Scott Mcghee managing a 3rd place with 27lbs 10oz.
However.. Broom regular Ian Whitson didn’t let the end peg bother him.. Getting his tactics spot on, Ian targeted ide on the pole and carp on the tip rod to weigh in a cracking mixed net of fish for 49lbs to win his section.
Worthy of a mention was James Carlton who’d been absent from the recent matches at the fishery.. But came back today with a bang catching a lovely mix of small carp and ide to weigh in a very respectable 41lb 8oz.. Finishing 2nd in section.
All in all some steady sport throughout both sections on a summer like day… Well done guys.!!
