John, Myles and Mark worked very hard on Saturday doing a lot of ice ❄breaking to free up some of the pegs on Queensberry water to allow today’s Xmas ? match to go ahead, so hats off to you all for making it happen.!
A little more ice breaking was required this morning to free up a few more pegs with a decent turnout of 15 anglers.
With half of Queensberry Water freed up, we had to ” double bank ” the bottom end to accommodate everyone.
The aerator was left on overnight to ensure the bottom end stayed ” ice free “, and did it’s job, the downside being it never really fishes well when we use it due to the water temperature and different thermal layers being unsettled and mixed up.
The main thing today was the match went ahead with plenty of festive spirit along the way.
The match got of to a miserable start, with heavy rain and 30mph gusts, which fortunately died down around lunchtime.
With a shortened match of 4hrs on the cards and an Xmas dinner in the cafe to look forward to, I’m sure everyones minds was on the warmth of the cafe.!
Unsurprisingly, there were no ” bonus fish ” caught today, with very small fish making up the weights.
Geoff Whittle made good use of peg 21, winning the match with 3lbs 9oz of small roach, netting him first place in the pools and an Xmas hamper.
Steve Royle was 2nd with 35 gudgeon and a few small roach, winning 2nd placed pools and an Xmas hamper.
Scott Bond managed 1lb 6oz of small roach, picking up pools and a hamper, with Barry Young catching 30 gudgeon and 3 small perch to net 4th place in the pools and an Xmas hamper.
On a day when ” small was beautiful “, everyone won a prize, a worthy reward for a few hardy souls.!
The match ended at 2.15pm, with everyone treated to coffee, a full Xmas dinner and Xmas pudding… A well earned warm up and good feed.
A big shout out to the Broom Cafe staff for providing us all with a cracking dinner.! Many thanks from us all.
